We are delighted to announce Brilliant SA’s recent success at the Master Builders Association’s National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards 2013.  These are widely considered “the most prestigious event on the Australian building industry’s calendar” and recognise the finest from our industry.

After initial success at the South Australian MBA Building Excellence Awards in September, which saw us take out the award for Excellence in a Renovation or Addition up to $200,000, we were honoured and excited to be selected as finalists for the National Awards. The Awards Ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the national Parliament, Canberra on November 16th.

Brilliant SA was announced as the Winner of the
National Alterations/Additions Award – $150,000 to $350,000

“The Renovation consisted of two upstairs bathrooms, a ground floor kitchen, laundry and powder room and over 200 square metres of new tiled flooring. Stunning polished porcelain tiles complement the existing grand staircase. This kitchen was extensively renovated, the focus being on increasing storage space and improving usability. The bulky corner pantry was removed and the bulkheads reworked and streamlined to suit the look of the new kitchen. The upstairs ensuite bathroom is a signature room of the project. This 15 square metre room features stylish angles windows, a free standing bath and a large, open walk in shower.”

The judges of the awards had this to say about Brilliant SA’s winning renovation (pictured):

“This exceptional renovation and extension was a delight to inspect. The choice of materials and the resultant high quality of finishes exudes opulence. The builder’s attention to protection and care during the build received extremely high praise from the owners, as did all facets of the project including design, costing, constructions and administration.”

Congratulations to Brilliant’s talented and dedicated team, including Designer Steven Mahlo, Project Supervisor David Lamond and our wonderful group of skilled tradespeople, for delivering another outstanding project. Our thanks go also to our wonderful clients who entrust us with their project and work with us to achieve the best outcome.

This latest achievement caps off an outstanding year for Brilliant SA. The company had already earned extensive accolades at other key industry awards such as the KBDi Design Awards and SA Housing Industry Association Awards and seen its work showcased throughout Australia.

The Awards are a testament to the Brilliant team’s innovative skill, dedication, integrity and endless pursuit of excellence.

Brilliant SA is looking forward to continued growth and success in 2014 and beyond.

They’ve done it again!

Brilliant SA’s team of skilled and enthusiastic professionals has once again enjoyed recognition at the South Australian Housing Industry Association’s 2013 Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards. The awards celebrate the highest level of achievement and excellence in design and construction.

Brilliant SA had outstanding success with Bathroom Renovations, picking up gongs in multiple sections;

2 project Awards as well as Bathroom Designer of the Year SA

Renovated Bathroom $30,000 – $45,000 – Winner: Brilliant SA

The transformation of a 1920s Henley Beach bungalow’s aging bathroom was designed by Jordan Smith and expertly built by supervisor David Lamond and the Brilliant SA team.
A key focus for this project was to make the most of the small room without compromising on function and style. Concealed storage and fixtures along with a clever use of materials have been combined in a functional and attractive space that meets the client’s requirements for a simple but stylish room that has a feeling of calmness and is easy to maintain. The final result projects a feeling of modern elegance and understated luxury.
The project was meticulously detailed and finished and is visually stunning.

Renovated Bathroom $45,000 – $55,000 – Winner:  Brilliant SA

A stylish, practical en-suite created as part of extensive renovations to a Flagstaff Hill home was recognised for excellence in this category. The room was designed by Steve Mahlo and once again the construction was supervised by David Lamond.

The existing space was generous but imbalanced and poorly laid out. the room was reconfigured to make the most of the features of the room. A bulky spa bath made room for an elegant freestanding bath and floor mounted spout.

Mirrored shaving cabinets with internal power points are recessed into wall above the generous vanity unit, while a recessed niche caters for shower shelving.

Vertically laid white gloss wall tiles give the illusion of extra height, while darker feature tiles laid horizontally in the shower provide contrast and balance.

Lighting is LED was used throughout with  wall mounted task lighting above the mirrors.

The finished brilliance has now created a haven for the parents of this family to retreat to, close the door and relax to gain the “me” time they both deserve.

The overall quality of the project has impressed the judges of all of Australia’s peak industry associations. In addition to this HIA Award, the (overall) project won MBA building Excellence Awards for Renovation/Addition under $200,000. Steve’s design was also Highly Commended in KBDi 2013 Design Awards (Large Bathroom).

South Australian Bathroom Designer of the Year – Winner: Janine Izzo for Brilliant SA

Janine’s design of the bathroom in this 1934 Bungalow is nothing short of stunning and has received accolades from across Australia and overseas.

“The client expressed a desire for a contemporary style in the bathroom and was willing to disregard the existing period style of the home to achieve this aim.We wanted to experiment with finishes that were not commonly used within the South Australian market and we wanted to showcase our abilities and willingness to look beyond the humble tile and off – shelf product and really design a creation that excites the senses.” Janine said

With a long list of features and unique elements, we will touch on some key points:

Staron solid surface for the wall and floor application as well as a custom formed vanity.
Caesarstone Concetto, Grey Agate as a backdrop for the vanity and pan with RGB LED used to backlight the stone and change the mood and look of the room.

LED feature lighting and task lighting throughout with the addition of a ceiling pendant light. Natural lighting is obtained from a full height window and ceiling skylight. The concealed exhaust fans have automated switching. Floor heating and a heated towel ladder ensure the room and towels stay dry and warm.

The large mirrored cabinet takes care of all the storage needs and conceals electrical outlets and controls.

Luxury fittings and appliances throughout this project are sleek and, where possible, concealed. The end result is a breathtaking room with harmonious balance.

Janine previously won the KBDi Design Awards 2013 “Best  Design – Small Bathroom (SA)” for this bathroom design.

These awards underpin Brilliant’s 2012 success, which saw the company take out the HIA Best Renovated Bathroom $30,000 – $45,000 and Janine taking the triple crown of KBDi  “Best Design Small Bathroom”, “Best Design- Large Bathroom” and “Bathroom Designer of the Year” (SA).

Brilliant SA’s accomplishment is further recognition of the team’s ongoing commitment to creating and implementing South Australia’s most innovative and practical design solutions.

It goes without saying that the company owners are extremely proud of the achievement of their team. Designers, supervisors, support staff and of course the all of the construction crew have come together to consistently deliver the highest standard of professional workmanship and service.
We pay tribute to their commitment and skill. Well done to all involved with the projects.
The future is bright for Brilliant SA.

All of us here at Brilliant SA are proud to announce the success our ‘brilliant’ team of designers at the recent Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute National Awards, demonstrating once again that Brilliant SA remains a step ahead in the South Australian design industry.

At the August Awards Ceremony, Designer Janine Izzo’s transformation of a 1934 Californian Bungalow’s 27 year old bathroom was awarded Best Small Bathroom Design for South Australia – the second consecutive year that Janine has taken out this honour.

PG1.17

The client’s desire to experiment with unique features not commonly used within the South Australian market allowed scope for Janine to exercise the flair and innovation for which she is rapidly becoming known, creating a design that excites and refreshes the senses. The award backs up Janine’s exceptional success in 2012, which saw her named Australian Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute’s Bathroom Designer of the Year for SA/WA. The judges of the highly competitive award praised Janine’s design, saying that “the use of lighting, clever materials and refinement made this design totally tasteful. First impression was ‘wow’ and how exciting that the client had allowed the designer so much scope and freedom. As with all small rooms, the available space created lots of challenges to overcome but the result was very well done

Janine wasn’t celebrating alone, however, with two other Brilliant SA designers receiving accolades in recognition of their outstanding work in Bathroom Design over the past 12 months. Steve Mahlo’s experience and originality helped him top his 2012 Double Finalist title with a Highly Commended in the Large Bathrooms category, whilst Jordan Smith cemented her reputation as one of the state’s most exciting young designers with a High Commendation for her entry in the Small Bathrooms category. We are confident that Brilliant’s success is a testament to the hard work and innovation of our entire staff team.
